Windows Mobile Support / How to connect via Bluetooth on the HTC HD2
« on: September 01, 2010, 06:00:18 »
Hi, excellent, affordable application! Truly the perfect Windows Media remote solution that I have been looking for for years and I'm glad I've purchased it!

I had quite a few problems connecting via Bluetooth on the HTC HD2 and since there are no installation instructions or FAQs at the moment, I thought I'd better just outline what I did to get the connection working via Bluetooth for anyone who has the connection problems that I had.

Seems that my problems were to do with the Default COM Ports on the PC for my Device that were created by Windows were not working as desired. So most people won't have the kind of problems that I had but these are all of the repeatable steps that I took to get the connectivity between the HD2 and MCC working by creating a new COM Port for MCC that is not bound to the Device Driver.

Device: HTC HD2 with WM6.5 and TouchFlo
PC O/S: Windows 7
Bluetooth Adapter: Generic USB BLuetooth Dongle

On the PC
  • Download and install the Media Center Control software onto the PC.
  • Connect your phone to the PC via Activesync to initiate the installation of the Media Center Control Windows Mobile software.
  • Disconnect your Device from the PC.
  • Remove any existing Bluetooth pairing from the PC to the Device.
  • Remove your Phone from the Windows 7 Devices and Printers List. (May not be necessary).
  • Right Click on the Bluetooth Devices icon in the System Tray near the Clock and select Open Settings.
  • In the Options tab of the Bluetooth Settings dialog, Ensure that Allow Bluetooth Devices to find this Computer is checked. (You can disable this again once you have established a  working paired Serial Connection by completing all steps below)
  • In the COM Ports tab of the Bluetooth Settings dialog, Add a new Com Port.
    • Select Incoming (device initiates the connection)
    • Click OK
  • A new COM Port will be created, take note of the new Number. (i.e. COM"X")
  • Open the MCC Server - Settings dialog and Enable Bluetooth Connections.
  • Select the newly created COM port from the Bluetooth Port dropdown box.
  • OK or Apply the changes, and re-launch the Media Control Center software.

On the Device
  • Open the Bluetooth Settings, remove any existing pairing configurations to the PC. (Proper Bluetooth settings on the HTC HD2 can be found in Settings -> Menu -> All Settings -> Bluetooth). No need to attempt to pair your device with the PC.
  • Run the Media Center Control software on the Device.
  • Select Bluetooth as a Connection Type.
  • Select Add...
  • Select the name of the PC running Media Center Control from the list of discovered devices.

On the PC
  • A Message bubble will appear near the tray informing you that A Bluetooth Device is trying to connect. Click on the Message or the Icon in the tray.
  • Enter a Pairing Code of your choice (i.e. "12345").

On the Phone
  • Enter the same Pairing Code that you entered above (i.e. "12345")
  • A message will appear prompting you to "Accept Connections". Tick the box and OK.

All Done!
