RE: error remoting wmp, empty list and WMP error
It was "just" a problem with the .NET framework. Sometimes it get's broken and only a repair or reinstall helps. Have a great time and enjoy MCC.

RE: error remoting wmp, empty list and WMP error
MCC was running fine for the last couple of days and has stopped this morning at 5am again. I used it the last time last night without any problems and it did not work this morning again! The HTPC is a 24/7 machine so it stays on al the time and gets some restarts form time to time to apply updates...
Since the last 'fix' it has still shown this strange error in the log Code: remoting error: System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified. but at least it has worked. As per attached server_debug, MCC dropped out this morning at 5am with the old error: Code: error remoting wmp Any thoughts on that again please? Hard to believe that the .net is broken again after a couple of days... Thanks. Cheers, Bert |

RE: error remoting wmp, empty list and WMP error
Markus, it was the .net again! I repaired it, restared the machine MCC works again!......until this morning 5:01am again, same error, same result, I can login to MCC but it's not showing anything.
Looking at the Task scheduler I can see Run Media Center Control scheduler is in the Status of Running, 1.5h after the event has been triggered. What is this schedule doing, what's it for? The other two MCC schedulers have never run so far since the re-installation 5 days ago... Looking at the Windows logs files shows two entries at 5:01am on an information level: - Windows Media Center: Optimization successful - MCC: MCC Addin is sending a start request to the MCC Server There is no trace in the log that MCC Server has stopped during the night, no error, no warning at all... The last bits of the Server_debug shows the following: Code: 30/07/2014 4:51:25 PM: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. and the machine shows the known error message as above again. I checked the functionality last time last night at around 10:30pm and all was working normally... Markus, I really would like to hear from you about this 'habit' Thank you. Cheers, Bert |

RE: error remoting wmp, empty list and WMP error
Hi Bert, the Run Media Center Control task is running MCC if an event is raised by the MCC service. It will raise an event if you try to connect your Android and MCC Server isn't startet or after an update was installed.
It's hard to say what is going wrong there. Most important is that all Windows updates are installed on the mashine. EDIT: You can also try an scf /scannow http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive...vista.aspx or Try to repair your Windows installation like this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/341...stall.html (be warned, it will delete some data and you have to manually patch (Windows update) the system again or Do a clean Windows 7 install (recommended) |

RE: error remoting wmp, empty list and WMP error
Hi Markus, thanks for your answer.
I am repairing .Net all the time, restart the machine and it works straight away again afterwards... Very strange as this machine is not doing very much during the day. It hosts WMC and a couple of VMs. That's it! Nobody uses it as a productive machine, surf the web, or install software on it, nothing... I can't figure out why this happens just by itself. Sometimes it's running fine for a couple of days and then stops. Having a look at the logs, I can see it always stops in the morning at 5:01am when the MCC schedule triggers. The schedule will still be running after a couple of hours and not stop any more. I have to repair the .Net, restart and it's fine afterwards again. Eventually, I have to follow your step 3 I guess... Very, very frustrating... |

RE: error remoting wmp, empty list and WMP error
The MCC schedule should only be triggered if WMC or MCC starts. Is this the case? Maybe your EPG data is updated at 5am?

RE: error remoting wmp, empty list and WMP error
ended up with re-installing my HTPC. Thanks to the VMs on it, it took me not very long to get my full functionality back.
Before the reset, MCC was running for over a week without any problems but dropped out again yesterday with the same errors... so I pressed the reset button! Thanks for all you help tho! |
