TV > Channels feedback/suggestions
« on: December 31, 2010, 22:37:03 »
Hi

Just got this today, I really like what you've done so far and look forward to the app becoming more refined with user feedback.

One of the main reasons for my use would be to be able to browse through the TV guide and select programs to record.
At the moment it seems that the default action for a tap is to always change channel, even if the program I tapped isn't on for 2 days!
This is making the TV almost unusable for me. I am only ever moments away from the wife shouting because I accidentaly did a tap instead of a scroll and changed channels. It also feels like I have to go back a lot and do a lot of long taps which makes things unintuative..

The way I would like to use TV > Channels is
1. I want to be able to browse through the channels in the guide
2. Look at a list of programs on a channel
3. Look at details of the program
4. Record, record series etc. (from either long tap on program in list or from a link on the program show details screen)

I think a few small changes would improve this area of the TV > Channels area of the application dramatically.

a) Can we have an option to order channels by their channel number, alphabetically or watched (the current setting).

b) I would like the default tap on a channel to be 'show program' list not 'switch'.

c) When on a 'show program' list for a channel it would be great to be able to swipe left and right to display the 'show program' screen for the previous or next channel.

d) I would like to default tap on a program to be 'show details' not 'switch'.

e) Can you put links to all the programs long tap options (record, record series, switch (if program is showing) etc) on the programs 'show details' screen.

I hope you agree that the above changes would make things much more user friendly.
I'd be more than happy to help you test.

Many thanks
Neil

Hi Neil,

thanks for this great input. All users are welcome to help making MCC better.

I agree with this changes. I will make that things more configurable.

You can change this in the server settings. Is it a must have for you to switch sorting from mobile device?

Thanks. I have found the option for sorting by watched and unticked it. :)
I must have ticked it and forgotten! ::)

Not a must have to sort channels from device.  Much better now it's in the same order as TV.

I have been playing with drawing some wireframes of what I was thinking about in the first post, to try to make it easier to show you the idea. I hope you don't mind but pictures are easier than words when we speak different languages!

Just an idea... :)

Some of this nice suggestions are implemented now and will be released with the next version of MCC. (Don't forget to press menu in the details screen to get recording buttons)

But I have a problem with the swipe left/right thing to move through channels. This isn't a default Android behaviour. I think pressing back and then goto next channel will do it for now. I have to think about it a bit more. There are other solutions like tabs at the top or something. As some users already noticed that they can't show different days as the current. I never noticed that for myself. But this is a thing I will change. It's the same thing as swiping through channels. But I'm sure that no one will try to swipe to change the content because it's not like Android works. All suggestions are welcome.  :D

That's great to hear. Im looking forward to the release.

What I was thinking is to have each channels Listview as a view in a view flipper...
