Host is unresolved
« on: January 01, 2011, 06:38:39 »
Hi,

I've just installed the client on my HTC Glacier (Mytouch 4G in the US).  I've attempted to connect to two computers (Win 7 32 and 64 bit) running the server software, but I can't connect with either IP addresses or PC names.  When I abort the attempt I am told that the host is unresolved.

I've checked the firewall (and even turned it off), tried different ports and with and without a password.  Any ideas?

Just tried with an Android tablet running 2.1 and connected straight away, so it seems it is a problem with the Glacier

Please get the Android Market app "Pinger" and try to send a ping to your computer hostname and ip address.

And please post the error message if you try with ip address. It should be another one as you posted already. Thanks.

<ahem... hangs head in shame>

So, it would appear that my Android keyboard occasionally adds a space after a period when entering an IP address...  I didn't notice until I saw it happen on the much larger screen of my tablet in pinger (i'd changed the keyboard on the tablet to match that on my phone after I installed MMC), but lo and behold, when I checked on my cell phone, there it was - a little space lurking there.

I'll be in the corner feeling stupid if anyone wants me!

I do, by the way, love this software.  It's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for to control my media center.  When I've recovered sufficiently from my shame I will mention one other problem I'm having (though I suspect it's very much due to the particulars of my set-up), but for now I'll slink off and enjoy your work!

Nice!

I will add a trim command to avoid this extra space problem in the future (it happens to me on time also).
