Video listings blank using Pogoplug NAS
« on: January 07, 2011, 21:43:21 »
This one certainly isn't a show stopper (I can always use the media center itself, or move the files off the NAS), but I have an odd issue with the video category.

When I have my video (TV shows mainly for this category) on the NAS (a Pogoplug), I can only see directory names, each with an 'empty list' message when I go into them.  If I add the same files to the 'Movies' category, then WMC flattens the structure and the files appear on the remote.  If I move the video to a local drive, then I can add them to the 'video' category and the nesting structures work fine.

Pogoplug appears to the the PC as a normal drive letter.  Music also works fine on the Pogoplug.

The debug file from the PC is as follows:

1/7/2011 12:17:46 PM: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
at System.Number.StringToNumber(String str, NumberStyles options, NumberBuffer& number, NumberFormatInfo info, Boolean parseDecimal)
at System.Number.ParseInt32(String s, NumberStyles style, NumberFormatInfo info)
   at System.Convert.ToInt32(String value)
   at TV.Channel.set_Data(String value)
   at MCC_Server.Form1.mc_getTVchannelsReceive(String data)
   at MCC_Server.Form1.mc_handleMessage(Object msg)
at System.Number.StringToNumber(String str, NumberStyles options, NumberBuffer& number, NumberFormatInfo info, Boolean parseDecimal)
at System.Number.ParseInt32(String s, NumberStyles style, NumberFormatInfo info)
   at System.Convert.ToInt32(String value)
   at TV.Channel.set_Data(String value)
   at MCC_Server.Form1.mc_getTVchannelsReceive(String data)
   at MCC_Server.Form1.mc_handleMessage(Object msg)
MCC Server v1.5.2

Like I said, this isn't a show stopper and it does seem to be an issue with something that the Pogoplug is doing when it's returning the directory listing, but I thought I'd let you know anyway.

Hi,

be sure you add the folder with your videos on your NAS to the windows video library (in windows explorer). You can add any drive, folder or UNC path. This should work.

Wow - my original explanation was all over the place, wasn't it!  A little clarification...

I have a directory of video files stored on my pogoplug.  The directory structure is nested (separating shows, seasons etc.)

When I add this to the Video folder in windows, or through Media Center, the nested structure appears and all of the files are playable in media center.
However, when I try to access them through the remote control, all I can see is the directory structure - each directory however is empty.  No files show up on the remote control.  Even files at the root of the directory structure (not within a sub-directory) are invisible.
If, instead of videos, I link the pogoplug directory to "Movies" in windows media center, all of the files appear, though the directory structure is stripped out.  The files also appear on the remote control.
If I move the video directory off the pogoplug to a local drive, the directory structure and files work just fine in the 'video' category, both through media center and through the remote

That's very strange. The same folder structure works for MCC on a local drive, but not on your NAS if you add it to videos library.

Please enable the debugging by following these steps:

Please download the attachment and run enable_MCC_verbose_debug.reg
Then reproduce the problem and post the "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\MCC_Server\mcc_server_debug.txt" please.
If you start MCC server you will get a popup window in behind the WMC window which informs you about the enabled debugging. You have to click ok first and then switch back to WMC.
Afterwards don't forget to run disable_MCC_verbose_debug.reg to disable the debugging again.
