Hi,

I have missed to add firewall rules for the new MCC services introduced with version 1.6.0. The service handles starting of MCC and WMC on client connect and automatic updates.
If you are using a firewall on your windows machine both features are not working until a rule is set to allow network traffic for the MCC service.

To add the rules, execute the following steps:
  • Determine your Windows architecture (32 or 64 bit). Press Windows key and right click "Computer", select "Properties". Below "System" you fill find your system type.
  • Press the Windows key and type "cmd". Right click "cmd.exe" and select "Run as Administrator"
  • Copy and paste one of the following commands to the command line box and press enter:
For 32bit (x86) windows:
Code: [Select]
netsh firewall add allowedprogram "%programfiles%\Media Center Control\MCC Service.exe" "MCC Service" ENABLE
For 64bit (x64) windows:
Code: [Select]
netsh firewall add allowedprogram "%programfiles(x86)%\Media Center Control\MCC Service.exe" "MCC Service" ENABLE

After executing these steps MCC service should be able to communicate with the update server and your android client. If it doesn't work you may try to reboot your machine to restart the Windows firewall.

Hey.  Thanks for great app.

Few questions maybe you can help me with:

Starting Android client on internal network over wifi with local IP address works great - MCC auto starts on connection.

However to get it working over dyndns and port forwarding I eventually had to disable my Windows7 firewall altogether.  Tried the suggested ENABLE command and also tried ticking boxes in the firewall setting themselves, but nothing seemed to work.  Maybe I need to do a full MCC install as Administrator?  Would this help?  If anyone has any ideas on how Windows 7 firewall should be configured....

The second problem I am seeing is that when connecting over dyndns the MCC app will not auto start and subsequently it wont connect - just keeps popping up with 'connecting' pop-up on Android client.  One time I saw it report an error that was something like SOCKET_CHANGED_ERROR?  Connects fine if I start MCC manually before trying to connect.  Strange one because like I say, wifi client connection auto starts MCC no problem.

This is a bummer when I'm trying to demonstrate to work colleagues and I have accidentally exited MCC  ;)

However, really enjoying using it.  Please let me know if there is any more info you need - I will try switching debugger on too.

Hi,

auto start MCC over internet isn't working because a broadcast is send to the client.

To connect a running server from the internet be sure that public traffic is allowed for MCC Server. The Firewall is managing private & public traffic seperate.

Yes, I tried the public traffic setting, but I still needed to disable whole firewall.  I'll mess about some more.

Please elaborate on starting MCC over internet.  Are you saying that this doesn't work at the moment? Or is there something I can do to make it work?

It's a network/router limitation. Maybe, if you already got wake on LAN over internet working you can also setup the router to route broadcasts for this too.

The broadcast ports used by MCC are 36100 & 36101. Both ports need a forwarding to the Windows computer with MCC runnning. The address is the computers IP, but changed the last number to .255 (for example: 192.168.1.255). It's the same as decribed in the manual for WOL (port 7).

Give it a try. I have never tested it.  :D

Is there any way to provide access from the internet to a broadcast-address with a Fritz.box?

A simple firewall-forwarding is not possible.

The only way i know is to install freetz on your fritzbox. But I don't know a good manual for this.
