Sorry for the late reply. I'm very busy in the moment.
I put in the computer name I want to connect to (the desktop) but it is trying to connect to my broadband provider (i.e., and address starting with 64, such as 64.something.something) or could it be trying to connect with the Sprint network??? But of course I am trying to connect to a computer on my internal network - that has an address in the format of 192.168.0.122 as an example. The Android software immediately reports it cannot find that address.
ANY IDEAS of why it is insisting on trying to connect to the broadband provider instead of a local machine on my home network? That seems to be the last hurdle I face.
That's very strange. It looks like you are not connected via WiFi but via EDGE or something. To make things easy you should use the ip for now.
First it's important that you get the correct ip adress from your computer (and not using a name when it results in trouble). The next version of MCC will assist you to get the correct ip but for now you have to get it by yourself. Open a command shell (Windows > Run > cmd) and type ipconfig. Find your local network connection in the results and get the IP from the IPv4-Adress line. It should be something like 192.168.x.x. Now type ping 192.168.x.x (replace this with your ip). You should get a reply like that:
Reply from 192.168.178.21: Bytes=32 Zeit<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.178.21: Bytes=32 Zeit<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.178.21: Bytes=32 Zeit<1ms TTL=128The type ping computername (replace computername with your computers name). It should show the same result as above. You can get your computers name by typing hostname.
WMC and MCC server must run. You can check MCC server is running by looking into your taskbar tray (on the right) and loock for the MCC server icon. Now check your mcc server settings and compare it with them from the attached screenshot. Because you don't want internet access it's not required to set a password in the server settings (Network auth setup). But if you set it here, you have to enter it in the MCC client also. The password is NOT the Windows user password. You have to enable network connections and to use a network port (use the default port 63187). The same port has to be set in the MCC client.
Do you have any 3rd party firewall running on the Windows PC?
On your android phone you should see a WiFi icon in the top notification bar. Your mobile connection should be disabled automatically by the phone if WiFi is connected. Open the ping tool on your android phone (I prefer "Pinger") and try to ping your computers ip adress. You already said this works. It's a must that the ping works properly. If this isn't working, you have a wrong ip or a connection problem between Android and Win7.
Now open MCC on your phone and open the settings. Enter the ip adress which you successfully pinged into the computers list. The MAC adress isn't required. Check the network port (63187). Go back and MCC should try a connection. There is no timeout in MCC. It's retrying a connection endless. If it's not connecting after some seconds, hit back and post the error message here please.
Another thing you can try if the conection isn't working and you only have the Windows Firewall enabled with no extra 3rd party firewall. Go to system panel > system & security > windows firewall. On the left panel click "Enable or disable Firewall". Choose "Disable Windows- Firewall" for both network profiles. Now restart your computer and retry the connection to MCC.
I'm looking forward to your answer and I'm sure that we can get it working.
Regards
Markus
